Leading national law firm Holding Redlich is pleased to announce the appointment of two new partners, Nevin Agnew and Jeremy Johnson, who have joined the firm's rapidly growing Canberra office in response to its appointment to all areas of law on the new Whole of Australian Government Legal Services Panel.
Their arrival follows the recent addition of partner Philip Jones-Hope and 14 team members, marking a period of substantial growth for Holding Redlich's Canberra office and the firm’s Commonwealth Government Group. The Canberra team now comprises 27 people including six partners, with 17 people commencing since September 2024. The firm is currently seeking a new office space in Canberra to accommodate this expansion and to facilitate future growth.
Agnew, joining from MinterEllison, advises insurers, private companies, and government clients in insurance-backed litigation for professional indemnity – medical, toxic torts, public liability, personal injury, investigations, coronials and public law. His expertise extends to policy drafting, interpretation, and providing strategic guidance. He represents public sector clients in court proceedings and has a dedicated interest in aviation, frequently serving as Counsel in aviation-related incidents. He has represented clients in large class actions in the Federal Court, appeared as Counsel in coronial inquests, and contributed to the establishment of Comcover, the Federal Government’s self-managed insurance scheme.
Also from MinterEllison, Johnson’s practice includes representing Commonwealth departments, agencies and entities, as well as a range of corporate clients. He has acted in claims before the High Court, Federal Court, various Supreme Courts and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Jeremy has a particular expertise in claims against public authorities, including in relation to allegations of novel duties of care.
Troy Lewis, Holding Redlich’s National Managing Partner, highlighted the significance of the expansion. “Welcoming Nevin, Jeremy, and their team to Holding Redlich is a pivotal step in strengthening our service offerings to Australian Government clients. Their deep understanding of the public sector's unique legal landscape enhances our capacity to provide nuanced and effective advice.”
Elizabeth Carroll, Partner and Head of Holding Redlich’s Canberra Office, welcomed the new additions. “The expansion of our team reflects our commitment to the Commonwealth and public sector. Nevin and Jeremy's expertise aligns perfectly with our focus on delivering exceptional legal services tailored to the specific needs of government agencies. We are excited about the collaborative opportunities this presents.”
Reflecting on his move to Holding Redlich, Johnson said, “I was drawn to Holding Redlich by the great culture and the quality of work the team is doing across government departments and agencies. The firm’s mix of deep sector knowledge and its nimble, responsive approach are what sets it apart in the market.”
Agnew echoed Johnson’s sentiments, saying, “Holding Redlich’s reputation in the Australian Government sector, along with its growing presence nationally, provides a fantastic platform to support our clients. I’m looking forward to working with a forward-thinking team that’s dedicated to delivering real results as the team continues to expand.”
