Jeremy’s practice spans work with a range of government and corporate clients.

He has acted in claims before the High Court, Federal Court, various Supreme Courts and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

Jeremy has been recognised since 2015 in ‘Best Lawyers’ in the areas of Government Practice and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Experience

Jeremy’s experience includes:

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

  • acting in proceedings involving allegations of loss caused by exposure to asbestos, silica and coal dust and other toxic substances
  • managing multi-party proportionate liability disputes concerning property damage and business losses caused by fire
  • successfully defending an international manufacturer in a product liability claim concerning alleged design flaws
  • representing a medical practitioner in proceedings involving multiple merits review and judicial review appeals
  • acting in coronial inquests concerning deaths caused by the prescription of opiate mediation, the misdiagnosis of malignant conditions and the incidence of suicide at Canberra Hospital
  • acting in professional liability / discipline proceedings against legal practitioners, medical practitioners, architects, agronomists, accountants and financial advisers
  • managing portfolios of claims for government and corporate clients – this work has involved leading teams of lawyers and standardising, optimising and automating claim processes.

Government

  • representing a Commonwealth regulator in a challenge to a legislative instrument on grounds of unreasonableness and that the regulator had acted beyond its power
  • defending claims against a range of Commonwealth entities concerning allegations of novel duties of care 
  • acting in proceedings brought by self represented litigants 
  • representing Commonwealth entities in coronial enquiries
  • advising on administrative decisions including in relation to requests for reconsideration and in appeals before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
