Alexandra’s key focus is to understand and promote her clients’ objectives in order to provide commercial strategic and legal advice to clients.

Over the course of her decade of practice, Alexandra has specialised in dispute resolution and litigation, public and administrative law,  Government. In particular she has extensive experience in mining and resources disputes, Royal Commissions, and Commissions of Inquiry.

Alexandra has a strong background in acting for various State government agencies in relation to contractual disputes, negligence and property damage claims. She has worked in-house at the Department of Premier and Cabinet and Queensland Corrective Services.

Alexandra has acted for a wide range of private and public clients in various sectors in both state and federal jurisdictions.

Her recent experience includes:

Dispute Resolution and Litigation 

  • acting for a Queensland mining company in unique Land Court compensation proceedings arising from special purpose legislation enacted by the Queensland Parliament
  • acting for parties in a large, complex mining joint venture dispute in the Queensland Supreme Court
  • acting for Glencore Coal Queensland Limited in the Queensland Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in respect of a contractual dispute concerning the Wiggins Island Rail Project, which was the construction and upgrades of rail infrastructure to the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal
  • acting for the public sector in relation to claims against it by landowners for compensation for the diminution in value of land at Collingwood Park following a subsidence event in 2008
  • defending proceedings commenced for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution

Public and Administrative law and Government

  • acting for a Queensland Government department in respect of an application challenging a statutory decision under the Judicial Review Act 1991
  • acting for the Australian Information Commissioner in administrative law proceedings in the Federal Court concerning privacy and freedom of information decisions
  • acting for the public sector, both Federal and State, in relation to judicial review applications under the Administration Decisions (Judicial Review) Act 1977 (Cth) and Judicial Review Act 1991 (Qld)
  • experience in advising on compliance with government policies and frameworks, complex matters of statutory interpretation and regulatory issues
  • advising on complex statutory decision-making, and provision of bespoke statutory decision making  
  • providing advice to the public sector in relation to the recovery of automatic overpayments made to employees following the roll out of new payroll software and conducting the file management of those recoveries once commenced
  • providing advice to the public sector regarding potential recoveries under the Public Officers Superannuation Benefits Recovery Act 1988 (Qld)
  • providing advice regarding the functions and powers under the State Penalties Enforcement Registry Act 1999 (Qld) Royal Commissions and Inquiries
  • solicitor seconded to the Department of the Premier and Cabinet to its’ State Coordination of Legal Representation team to coordinate the Queensland Government’s response to various Commissions of Inquiry and Royal Commissions, including the Barrett Adolescent Commission of Inquiry, the Grantham Floods Commission of Inquiry and the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
  • acting on behalf of an ASX listed property developer in injunctive proceedings to protect the company from trademark infringement.
